License
FileMaker Cloud has its own license. To migrate to fmcloud.fm, you need an "on premise" license. We can either change your FileMaker Cloud license to an on prem or start fresh with a new license.
Going through the program change process is worth the effort if you still have many month to go before the renewal, or if you have many users on your license. Claris may ask that you select a multi-year license on the new license to avoid refunding. We'll take care of all the paper work for you.
Migration
Get the data from FileMaker Cloud
Note that you can invite a member of our team to your FileMaker Cloud team as an administrator if you need help. Your support agent will tell you which Claris ID to use.
- Log in to each of your file and create FileMaker file accounts in replacement of Claris ID accounts. It may also be a very good opportunity to switch to an OAuth provider. We recommend Microsoft Entra ID, which is free. You then just have to create a group per privilege set. Make sure that you still have a FileMaker File authenticated, Full access account.

- Optional but recommended: In the FileMaker Cloud admin console > Backups > Backup Settings: enable the setting allowing backups with saved encryption keys to be downloaded as unencrypted.
- Databases > Disconnect all users
- Backups > Click backup now (green button)
- Databases > Close all databases to make sure no one reconnects
- Backups > Select the most recent backup and click download
- In the download dialog, select All, then download
Upload the data to fmcloud.fm
There are several ways to upload data. If the data is very large, we recommend using ftp, otherwise simply unzip the files that you just downloaded and use the FileMaker Pro Upload manager (File menu/Share/Upload to host)
The procedure is described here.
